Bend, OR - Vancouver, WA
3h52 - 218 mi (348 km)
We have left our amazing Airbnb in Bend in the morning. We really enjoyed this area. But we want to move forward and our next stop is the city of Vancouver, WA (not the Canadian Vancouver). We decided to take the road that goes through the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. It is a canyon of the Columbia River in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Up to 4,000 feet (1,200 m) deep, the canyon stretches for over eighty miles (130 km) as the river winds westward through the Cascade Range, forming the boundary between the state of Washington to the north and Oregon to the south (thank you Wikipedia). As soon as we started our descent from to the high desert and its blue sky to the gorges we entered into a very heavy fog. We had a picnic at the Mayer State Park along the river. The view was “gorge…ous” ;-) but it was really cold, so we didn’t stay too long. We then arrived at our Airbnb in Vancouver under the rain. Well, I heard the region is famous for the rain. Tomorrow we’ll drive to the coast!!!
